On May 24th, the 18th Open Arts Festival Chereshnevy Les presented the play "Kashtanka" of the Pskov Drama Theater directed by Julia Peresild at the Small Stage of the Nations Theater. The story of Anton Chekhov in the stage interpretation of the young actors of the theater sounded modern. The Moscow audience got acquainted with the promising Russian theater headed by Dmitry Meskhiev and the new director.

The play "Kashtanka" by Julia Peresild of the Pskov Drama Theater almost literally follows the text of its literary basis, all the characters of the Chekhov story - goose Ivan Ivanych, Khavronya and the Cat, appear on the stage. But the director's move humanizes them precipitating the story to the present day.

The producers of the play describe the genre of the play as a "rock-story without intermission". A simple girl Kashtanka (performed by the actresses Ksenia Tishkova and Anna Shuvaeva) is in the spotlight.  The story of her "life in art" and the drive of street life that cannot be bounded by show business, to which the wannabe star will return. All the songs and musical fragments were written, played and sang by the actors themselves, which makes the play very hearty & sincere.

Julia Peresild directed the children's charity project "Poem-Making” under the auspices of the Moscow Theater of Nations, which was transformed into the "Cherry Poem-Making", presented within the Chereshnevy Les 2017. Julia Peresild became the winner of the Oleg Yankovsky Creative Discovery Award. The festival and Julia Peresild are connected by a long-standing friendship and cooperation. "Kashtanka" is the first full-fledged Julia’s production, the Moscow premiere of which took place within the festival.

Many Russian cultural & art figures came to the first-night at the Theater of Nations.

Julia Peresild: "Usually we play even louder and brighter, we adapted the sound for the Small Stage of the Theater of Nations, where the distance from the viewer is small, but we got used to it quickly! The main thing is that these tours are an incredible event for us, I would like the Chereshnevy Les to understand that it has to do with the opening of a new theater to the Moscow public. I'm sure that many actors will be noticed and they will have new proposals eventually. The team of young actors and the new artistic director of these tours start a new creative path thanks to the festival!"
