Swiss watch house Jaquet Droz introduces two new thematic models of Petite Heure Minute watch, each of which is made by Les Ateliers d'Art craftsmen in two versions to celebrate the year of the Fire Rooster and inspired by the traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. These magnificent timepieces are imbued with the magical spirit of the New Year, when the exciting expectation of changes is intricately intertwined with the jealous traditions’ keeping.
The image of rooster that heralds dawns and dusks, one of the most vivid symbols of the indomitable time, is in perfect harmony with the elegant design of Petite Heure Minute watches opening the boundless freedom of creativity for the artists of Jaquet Droz workshops.
The two models pay tribute to miniature painting expressed in the form of two Grand Feu enamel dials which are housed in 39 mm red gold cases and set with diamonds for the 35mm model. The image of rooster, painted in the style of Chinese calligraphy masterpieces, adorns the hand-engraved rotor on the back side, making a single ensemble with the peony, the "king of flowers" and the symbol of spring. Each model is unique, depicting true miniature paintings. To the left of the dial, bamboo gives a promise of happiness, as the up-coming year will be full of youth and resilience in the face of adversity.
The miniature sculpture technique was used for the other two precious models. Limited to 28 pieces, the first Petite Heure Minute Rooster combines red gold with a dial inlaid with jadeite which is popular in Asia and considered to bring luck, as well as mother-of-pearl, and hand-engraved in the Jaquet Droz workshops. The second version of the model created in eight entirely hand-painted pieces strikes with the realistic painting of a rooster made in the style of traditional Chinese water color. Sun rising in the mist, the sloping mountainside and delicate peony petals rendered in a black and white palette are further enhanced by gems’ brilliance. The oscillating weight crafted in gold, is engraved, patinated and decorated in jadeite.
Traditionally, Jaquet Droz dedicates its new creations to the Chinese astrological calendar each year. Thus, the brand emphasizes the close relationship between China and the founder of the House - the first watchmaker who has been allowed to deliver his products to the Forbidden City, the residence of Chinese emperors in Beijing.
