Seguso art-installation adorned the 74th Venice Film Festival
The 74th Venice Film Festival is nearing completion: prominent and young directors show their applicants for a golden statuette, photographers are in search of a successful shot, and actresses shine on the red carpet in front of the Palazzo del cinema in Venice in the outfits of the latest couture collections. This year, the facade of the famous building, where the film festival traditionally takes place and the secular vanity fair unfolds, is sparkling with hundreds of crystal balls as if floating in the air.
The magnificent installation completely transformed the majestic cinema, built in the late 1930s. It was made by the legendary Seguso brand, the direct heir of the old glass-blowing Murano traditions.
300 hand-made glass globes shine with many multicolored lights in the evening: their glares seem to create the magic that surrounds the cinema world. The spherical shape of these seemingly weightless decorations is inspired by the ancient city lights that the company made for Venice in the 30s.
"We are proud of our cooperation with the Film Festival," - Gianluca Seguso, the CEO of the Seguso Vetri d'Arte project says, " thanks to it we can once again demonstrate the oldest traditions and craftsmanship of Murano glass blowers, offering their modern, original interpretation. We had an extraordinary opportunity to connect the cinema and one of the symbols of Venice, the Murano glass. These two types of art have much in common: they fascinate, inspire and convey beauty precisely."
Seguso сreations are inseparable from art. The history of Venetian glass is closely connected with the inventions of Seguso: invented by the craftsmen vessels’ forms are depicted on the canvases of the world famous artists. Over a hundred of prestigious museums with a worldwide reputation like the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan in New York, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and others - have the products of the Seguso Vetri d'Arte in their permanent collections. The ancestors of this family have created the first glass articles as far back as in 1397, and the professional tradition has never been interrupted since that time. Today Gianandrea, the two of his brothers, Gianluca & Pierpaolo, and the sister Mariajulia continue the family business in the 23rd generation.
The new art object from Seguso Vetri d'Arte will decorate the facade of the Palazzo del cinema until September 9th, the end of the film festival. However, those who do not have time to go to Venice can come to the second level of BOSCOCafe in GUM. The guests are met here by a unique chandelier of Murano glass, which was custom-made in a single copy at the family Seguso manufactory. The masterpieces of the famous Italian brand will soon be exclusively presented in Moscow - in the new BOSCOCasa store in Petrovsky Passage, which is to be opened at the end of the year.
