65th Anniversary of Sovremennik Celebrated by Premiere of Theatre

The 21st Cherry Forest Open Art Festival officially opened in Moscow. The Festival values its longstanding relationship with Sovremennik Theatre. To celebrate its anniversary, the theatre has entrusted Cherry Forest with the premiere of the drama Theatre based on the legendary novel by Somerset Maugham.

The theme of the 21st Cherry Forest Open Art Festival is Joint Jubilees. 2021 is a particularly happy year in terms of anniversaries: this year is marked both by the 20th anniversary of Cherry Forest Open Art Festival and the 65th anniversary of Sovremennik Theatre. Cherry Forest Open Art Festival values its longstanding relationship with Sovremennik Theatre. Sovremennik and Cherry Forest Festival prepare gifts for each other, as close friends do. To celebrate its anniversary, the theatre has entrusted Cherry Forest with the premiere of the drama Theatre based on the legendary novel by Somerset Maugham. The production is by Vladimir Pankov. Russian Federation People’s Artist Elena Yakovleva, the favorite student of Galina Volchek, will perform the main role.

Sergey Kapkov, Vladimir Pozner and Nadezhda Solovyeva, Ekaterina and Alexander Strizhenov, Marina Alexandrova, Andrey Burkovsky, Igor Butman, Leonid Yarmolnik, Valery and Viola Sutkin, Yulia Menshova and Igor Gordin, Marina Zudina, Andrey Makarevich, Vadim Vernik, Alyona Sviridova, and other friends of the festival and theatre were at the premiere.

Theatre is one of the main premieres at Sovremennik this season. The project aims to unite different generations of actors working at the theatre, from leading masters of their craft to the youngest actors, just joining the troupe.
